This is our most popular trip and a great introduction to whitewater rafting! The Lower New River starts slow, builds momentum gradually and delivers some mighty punches - at all water levels. You are small in the vastness of the scenic and lush gorge, but the rush of the rapids makes you feel otherwise. Commercially-guided trips are required to use rafts on the Lower New and NARR offers two raft formats: Standard (maximum nine plus guide) and High Adventure (maximum five plus guide).
If you have the time, the New River Overnight is highly recommended for a best-of-both-worlds experience. Day One is in duckies (usually) on part of the Upper New, camping alongside the river and continuing down the river in rafts on Day Two. If after rafting the Lower New you decide you want to take it up another notch, then you’ll receive a 25% discount for an additional day of rafting on the Gauley River. Besides the rapids, other features of the Lower New trip include an abundant river history, tall tales and floating under the New River Gorge Bridge.
All Lower New trips are available April through October and have a minimum age of 12 in the summer and 14 in the spring...for both the safety and enjoyment of your children. Morning or afternoon departures are available and depend on trip variations.
